Cosmopolitan Can Now Operate at 100% Capacity

The Cosmopolitan sees 40% increase in vaccinations in 14-day period; Surpasses vaccination goal to pay out upwards of $1 million to employees.

As of today, Tuesday, May 4, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas reached an 80% vaccination rate amongst its active workforce, fulfilling its commitment to pay out upwards of $1 million in cash bonuses to vaccinated employees.

Due to the overwhelming staff response, the resort has extended its vaccination deadline from May 1 to May 8 with the goal to increase vaccinations even further, which would expand total cash bonuses to well over $1 million.

As a result of the resort’s industry-leading vaccination milestone, on Saturday, May 1, the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued approval allowing The Cosmopolitan’s gaming floor capacity to increase to 100% of fire code capacity in addition to removing social distancing restrictions and plastic barriers at gaming tables.

“We believe the only clear path to normalcy and bringing our entire workforce back is through vaccinations,” said William McBeath, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. “It’s pertinent to not only The Cosmopolitan, but to our entire industry in ensuring travel can safely return to the destination. I could not be more proud of our team for doing their part to protect our city.”

“The Cosmopolitan demonstrated substantial efforts to vaccinate its workforce and have set an industry standard in what can be accomplished through smart and swift action,” said J. Brin Gibson, Chair, Nevada Gaming Control Board.

“As a result, The Cosmopolitan is one of few Las Vegas gaming properties to receive approval to return to full capacity due to its overwhelming employee response, and we’ve asked them to share their methodology, strategy and success with the wider hospitality industry. We look forward to seeing all resort partners across The Strip continue the momentum.”

On April 13, The Cosmopolitan initiated a comprehensive internal campaign to educate, incentivize and facilitate onsite employee vaccinations. Cosmopolitan employees were provided numerous resources and opportunities to educate themselves, ask questions and make the decision to vaccinate for the benefit of their families, community and coworkers.

  • The ongoing internal communications campaign featured virtual and in-person roundtable sessions with direct access to medical professionals and seamless accessibility to sign up for vaccination appointments through QR codes. Grassroots efforts from the resort’s designated Covid Response Team included informational pre-shifts, resource kiosks available at the employee dining room and property arrival points, and more.
  • Incentives include the potential to earn $1 million in total cash bonuses. In addition, should the resort achieve an 85% vaccination rate by May 8, vaccinated employees will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win $10,000. Resort gift cards and giveaways, access to an onsite vaccination clinic available during all shift periods, and the opportunity to vaccinate immediate household members were among additional incentives.
  • Through the resort’s dedicated Covid Response Team, each and every Cosmopolitan employee vaccination card is verified.

The health and safety of resort guests, employees and their families remain of the upmost priority. Throughout 2020, The Cosmopolitan invested more than $40M in COVID-19 relief efforts, including pay and benefits to employees, extensive safety measures and supplies implemented and installed throughout the resort, health and safety educational training programs and more.
