Wranglers Blank Utah Grizzlies 5-0 for First Shutout of the Season

November 19, 2011 by

The Las Vegas Wranglers kicked off their three-game road series against the Utah Grizzlies tonight with a 5-0 shutout win. Forward Judd Blackwater led the game in scoring with his first hat trick of the season.

With what would become the game-winning goal, Blackwater opened up tonight’s scoring with a short-handed goal at the 6:50 mark in the first with an assist from defenseman and Wranglers captain Mike Madill. Just 28 seconds later, forward Eric Lampe notched another short-handed Wranglers goal with help from defenseman Channing Boe and put Las Vegas up 2-0 early into the first period. To end the period with a 3-0 lead, Wranglers left wing Ned Lukacevic collected his first goal of the season at 14:27.

Blackwater, who is now on a 10-game point-scoring streak after tonight, tallied his second goal of the night midway through the second period with defenseman Michael Busto and center Adam Miller on the assists. He earned his hat trick at 13:20 in the third period with help from Wranglers forward Scott Campbell to give Las Vegas a 5-0 win over the Grizzlies.

Las Vegas goaltender Joe Fallon faced and saved a total of 21 shots tonight, earning him a Three Star nomination in tonight’s match. Lukacevic received the second Three Star mark, and Blackwater secured the first.

The Wranglers take on the Grizzlies tomorrow and Monday night in Utah with puck drops at 6:05 p.m. The team returns home to Orleans Arena on Friday, Dec. 2, to play the Idaho Stampede and take part in the annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Sunrise Aces Elementary School. Tonight’s full box score can be found here.
