Raising Cane’s ‘Cooks Up’ Cell Phones for Soldiers Promotion to Benefit Local Military Families

May 4, 2011 by

Beginning now, the Micatrotto Restaurant Group’s five Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers’ Las Vegas locations will initiate a month-long promotion to collect gently-used mobile phones and donations benefiting Cell Phones for Soldiers and local military members.

On Memorial Day, May 31, 2011, 100 percent of profits and the collected phones will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers. The USO, a non-profit organization whose mission is to lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families, will be distributing calling cards through its Las Vegas center.

Cell Phones for Soldiers Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing FREE calls home to U.S. armed forces, fulfilling a financial and emotional need of deployed heroes in all five branches of the military. Based in Norwell, Mass., CPFS was founded in 2004 by Robbie and Brittany Bergquist, then 12 and 13 years old. From the recycling of used mobile phone, the organization has collected more than 8.3 million cell phones to provide to troops overseas.

“Our military put their lives on the line for all of us,” said Justin Micatrotto, partner and chief marketing officer for the Micatrotto Restaurant Group, “It’s a pleasure for us to help out and participate in some way.”

Beginning May 1 and ending on Memorial Day, Raising Cane’s will collect gently-used mobile phones in each of its five locations.

“We have successfully partnered with Raising Cane’s in Las Vegas for several promotions, and they do an amazing job to help our troops,” said Bob Bergquist, president of Cell Phones for Soldiers. “The Las Vegas market has been great advocates, but there’s never quite enough aid. With the Micatrotto Group and the USO’s help, we hope to make a big impact for our service men and women.”Since its inception in 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers has provided more than 114 million minutes of free talk time and raised more than $7.5 million. Recently, the nonprofit announced its commitment to provide 750,000 communication tools in 2011 to troops stationed around the world. This Raising Cane’s effort will make a significant impact on reaching that goal.
