North Las Vegas Moving Forward as City Council Gets Ready to Open North 5th Street

December 4, 2010 by

It’s another accomplishment for the City of North Las Vegas as they prepare to open the North 5th Street Super Arterial roadway, a widened street that extends from Owens to Carey avenues. The $24 million dollar project will reduce congestion with six automobile lanes in place, plus include a bus lane in each direction, pedestrian bridge, traffic signals, a round-about and landscaping.

The accomplishment also celebrates a $1.2 million dollar renovation done on Jerry’s Nugget Casino. In partnership with the City Redevelopment Agency, Jerry’s Nugget received an exterior facelift, lush landscaping and an outdoor events park located on Tonopah Street.

“The changes made on the North 5th Street expansion and the I-15 North Corridor will revitalize the North Las Vegas city and will bring positive opportunities for existing and future businesses. More and more people will be able to drive easily and safely to North Las Vegas and downtown. We are privileged to be a part of the impact,” states Jeremy Stamis, executive of Jerry’s Nugget Casino.

Construction of the North 5th Street Super Arterial roadway began in summer of 2009. Future developments consist of 2 additional phases that will extend North Carey Avenue from I-15 to Cheyenne Avenue, plus a bridge over I-15 and Losee Road. Construction will start in early 2011. Additional improvements for Jerry’s Nugget will include a redesign of moving the casino’s main entrance and valet area towards North 5th Street for easier access in to the casino property. A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony of the North 5th Street will occur on Thursday, December 9th at 3:30pm. Jerry’s Nugget Casino will host the event with dignitaries from the City of North Las Vegas. A man lift will be provided for media members wanting to take aerial pictures of the North 5th Street site and Jerry’s Nugget.
