“Legends of Country Rock!” at Cannery Casino Oct. 9

September 9, 2010 by

Legends of Country Rock! featuring three of the most influential country bands from the 1970’s and 1980’s bring their distinctive sound to The Club inside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Saturday, October 9 at 8 p.m.
Poco, Firefall and Pure Prairie League are all true music originals that play “Classic American Music.” Infused by a common thread of a rock beat with country and folk melodies, acoustic and electronic instruments, these artists have pioneered today’s new “Roots” and “Americana” music scene.  They continue their influence with fiery live performances that include all of their greatest hits in a show that has been tugging the nostalgic heartstrings of audiences around the country.
Poco: Known for such hits as “Heart of the Night,” “Streets of Paradise,” “Call It Love,” and their most covered frequently covered single “Rose of Cimarron,” Poco is one of the pioneers of country-rock music. Members include Rusty Young on pedal steel guitar, banjo, Dobro, guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Michael Webb on guitar and vocals; Jack Sundrud on bass, guitar and vocals; and George Lawrence on drums.
Firefall: As one of the top bands in the genre of Americana, Firefall borrows from many other genres including rock, soft rock, country rock, easy listening and unplugged.  They have produced hits such as “Just Remember I Love You,” “Strange Way” and “Mexico.” The group includes Jock Bartley on lead guitar and vocals; Steven Weinmeister on guitar and vocals; Sandy Ficca on drums; Bil Hopkins on bass and vocals, and Chris Ball on saxaphone, flute and keyboards.
Pure Prairie League: Pure Prairie League got their start in 1970 in Ohio initially playing cover tunes at local bars. They went on to sign with RCA Records and have produced 12 albums to date.  Their most successful Two Lane Highway featured guest appearances by Chet Atkins, fiddler Johnny Gimble, Don Felder from the Eagles and Emmylou Harris. Hits such as “Amie,” “Falling In and Out of Love” and “Let Me Love You Tonight” continue to be played regularly on today’s airways and stand as reminders of this band’s epic influence on country rock.
