Cashman COVID-19 Testing Site To Close Friday, UNLV to Offer Testing 7 Days a Week

COVID-19 Testing Available on Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 at Heritage Park Senior Facility

The COVID-19 testing site at Cashman Center is closing at noon on Friday, Feb. 19, and testing operations at the UNLV Stan Fulton Building will expand to seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Sunday, Feb. 21.  The UNLV testing site is located at 801 E. Flamingo Road, just east of Paradise Road. UNLV’s testing site will be closed Friday and Saturday this week and will re-open on Sunday with its new seven day-a-week schedule.

Officials said the change of operations at Cashman Center, located in downtown Las Vegas at 850 N. Las Vegas Blvd., will allow the site to expand its capacity to offer more first and second-dose appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations at the site. Testing has been available in Exhibit Hall A at Cashman Center, while vaccinations are offered on an appointment-only basis in Exhibit Hall B. 

The COVID-19 testing sites at UNLV and Cashman Center are overseen by UMC in partnership with Clark County, the Nevada National Guard and other community partners. There is no-out-of-pocket cost to patients seeking tests, including the uninsured, but insurance information is requested during the registration process for billing purposes of those who have it in order to recoup some testing-related costs. Appointments continue to be highly recommended to reduce wait times and maintain operational efficiency. Appointments can be self-scheduled through UMC’s website at www.umcsn.com. Those with no online access may call UMC at (702) 383-2619 to schedule appointments.  The UNLV testing site location will continue to accept some walk-ins each day on a first-come, first-served basis as staffing allows, but priority is given to those with appointments. Community members are encouraged to check UMC’s website regularly, as the hospital makes new appointments available on a daily basis. Face coverings, temperature checks and social distancing are required while on site. Those arriving with symptoms are diverted to a separate testing area.

Since the community’s COVID-19 testing program was launched in May 2020, more than 614,000 tests have been conducted at public sites such as Cashman and UNLV, as well as one and two-day testing events throughout Southern Nevada at community centers, schools and other locations. The public can visit the testing site calendar on the Southern Nevada Health District’s website at www.SNHD.info/covid  for a listing of public testing sites and locations. The state of Nevada also has a COVID-19 test finding locator tool on its website at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/ that lists private labs, pharmacies and other testing resources for fees. Health officials recommend a COVID-19 test for people if:

  • You have symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
  • You have been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed or possible case of COVID-19.
  • You were in a setting where you were exposed to a large crowd and people were not wearing face coverings or maintaining social distancing.
  • You are planning to visit someone at high risk for COVID-19 illness, including people 65 years of age and older or people with serious medical conditions.

Southern Nevada Health District vaccination sites

Information about COVID-19 vaccination sites, eligible groups and appointment scheduling is available on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution page of the Southern Nevada Health District’s website at www.SNHD.info/covid. Due to limited supplies of vaccine, COVID-19 vaccinations are only available to people in eligible groups at this time including seniors age 70 and older, health care, public safety and frontline community support workers. First dose appointment scheduling is available on the Health District website at https://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/vaccine/distribution/. Second dose appointment scheduling is available at https://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/vaccine/second-dose/. People with limited online access also can call the Health District’s COVID-19 helpline with questions or to ask for assistance with canceling or scheduling appointments. The helpline numbers are (702) 759-1900 and (702) 455-0696. Helpline hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Those eligible for second-dose appointments include patients who received their first dose of Moderna vaccine at a Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 28 days prior as well as those who received their first dose of Pfizer at a Southern Nevada Health District or partner clinic no sooner than 21 days prior. A list of Health District and partnering vaccination clinics is available at https://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/vaccine/second-dose/. Due dates stamped on immunization cards are not appointment dates but the soonest date people can schedule an appointment for a second shot. 

The following actions are recommended to limit the spread of COVID-19, the flu and all respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands frequently with warm running water and soap.
  • Wear face coverings in public and among people who don’t live in the same household.
  • Stay home if you are sick or have had contact with someone who is sick.
  • Get a flu shot to help reduce potential impacts on the local health care system as the community continues to deal with increased COVID-19 caseloads.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched items such as your cell phone, doorknobs and counter tops.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet social distancing per person from non-household members.
