Golden Nugget’s Spring Wine & Jazz Fest returns for 2010

February 2, 2010 by

The Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino will host its Second Annual Spring Wine & Jazz Fest March 26-28.

This three day wine and jazz festival brings together consumers, winemakers and winery owners with poolside receptions, wine tastings, barrel and bottle samplings, cuisine pairings and a live wine auction.

“This event was so extremely popular and successful during its inaugural run last year that we’ve brought it back with even more wines and winemakers to showcase,” said Justin McVay, Golden Nugget public relations manager.

The entire three-day event will feature more than 250 wines from across the west coast. Regularly priced at $235*, guests who book in advance can lock in the discounted ticket price of $199* for all three events. Each event can also be purchased separately for full price the day of the event.

The festival kicks off Friday, March 26, with a poolside champagne and wine reception from 8-10 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with winemakers, owners and fellow wine enthusiasts while listening to smooth jazz at the property’s award-winning pool and shark aquarium, The Tank. Tickets to this event can be purchased individually for $35*.

The Grand Tasting starts Saturday, March 27, where guests will sample wines from over 50 wineries, including 200 selections from California, Oregon and Washington’s most prestigious wineries. The 7-10 p.m. event will be held in The Grand events center and feature library selections, current vintage releases, live jazz and exquisite food from our award winning chefs. Tickets to this event can be purchased individually for $100*.

Rounding out the three-day event Sunday, March 28, is the Champagne and Jazz Brunch from

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the property’s event center, The Grand. Guests will enjoy live jazz while exquisite brunch offerings are paired with sparkling wines from Domaine Chandon, Roederer Estates and Domaine Carneros. Brunch will be followed by a live auction featuring wine lots, large format collector’s bottles and more. Tickets to the brunch and auction can be purchased individually for $100*.

In conjunction with the three-day festival, the property is also hosting four add-on events.

First, a five-course wine dinner will be hosted by celebrity chef, restaurant designer and winery owner Pat Kuleto, March 26 at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature award-winning wines from Kuleto Vineyards paired with courses specifically designed by Chef Kuleto, along with Chef Janelle Weaver and Golden Nugget Executive Chef Alex Irlandes. Tickets to this event are $200* and include gratuity.

Next, Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse will host a blind tasting at 1 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m. March 27. Guests can test their skills against the masters, as they are guided through a five-bottle tasting and skilled on the insider’s methods of deduction. The event is $50 per person.

Finally, an Oregon vs. California Pinot Noir Showdown will be held March 27 at 1 p.m. This showdown will feature ten Pinot Noir’s from Oregon and California’s best known appellations. Guests can partake in a special tasting of featured wines like Archery Summit, Witness Tree, King Estates, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Bear Boat, Carmel Road, Robert Mondavi, Francis Ford Coppola and Chateau St. Jean. This event will be held at Lillie’s Asian Cuisine and is $50 per person.
