Ayesha Mehdi of Frontier Health Law will receive an award at the MANAO Asian Women of Inspiration Gala on Jan. 4 at Red Rock Country Club.
The awards will honor Asian women leaders in the Las Vegas Valley. Mehdi will join Shari Wong, Chelle Ozburn Adams, DeeDee Meevasin Cruz, Alida N. Lee Roberts and Caroline Bateman as honorees. Bryan Chan will serve as master of ceremonies; Emmy Kasten and Cevan Louie will speak; Elisa Chan and Crystal Yuan will be guest performers.
“I am thrilled and honored to receive this award,” Mehdi said.
The honor for Mehdi, who in her practice represents physicians, dentists and other health care professionals in corporate, transactional and health care matters, wraps a busy year.
In February, she presented with Attorney Mark Kopson at the American Health Lawyers Association’s (AHLA) Physicians and Hospitals Law Institute in San Antonio, TX. Their presentation, “Taming Troublesome Terms: Solutions to Recurring Payer-Provider Contract Problems” was well-received.
In July, she was one of several featured speakers at the annual conference of the Nevada Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), an organization for medical practice administrators and executives dedicated to advancing group practice management through educational programs and publications. At the conference, Mehdi discussed understanding physician employment agreements.
In November, Mehdi spoke at AHLA’s Fundamentals of Health Law conference in Chicago. Her talk (with Attorney William Horton), “Lawyers, Docs, and Money: The Health Care Lawyer’s Guide to Legal Ethics in Physician Transactions” discussed the legal ethics framework for advising clients on Stark law, anti-kickback laws, the lawyer’s role in dealing with fair market value and commercial reasonableness issues and enlightened self-interest.
She was also one of 300 lawyers to work pro bono for the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada’s Children’s Attorney’s Project. The lawyers represented Clark County foster children in 436 child abuse and neglect cases, augmenting work by the Legal Aid Center’s attorneys.
Mehdi serves on the University of Kansas School of Law’s board of governors and is the Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) health law section’s Fraud and Compliance interest Group. Ayesha is also an an active AHLA member and was selected for AHLA’s leadership development program.
