It’s pretty obvious that the NHL and Downtown Las Vegas have grown inseparable over this past year, but it proved to be all the more true this past weekend! Darren Banks, the D Casino Hotel executive host, and former NHL player of the Boston Bruins, hosted an awesome celebrity golf tournament/fundraiser at Royal Links Golf Club last Saturday, and was joined by some old friends and familiar sports icons.
Former hockey stars (and current legends), Dennis Maruk, Kevin McClelland, and Grant Fuhr came out to support both “Banksy” and a great cause, while practicing their skills in a sport outside of their “NHL” niche.
Later that night, the three men met up with Banksy at the D Las Vegas’ world-famous LONGBAR to experience all of the fun the D has to offer. Anyone who knows about this town is keen to the fact that famous faces frequently spend their weekends (and weekdays) at the go-to hot spot.
Things got a little crazy, to say the least-but in a good way, of course! Hockey fanatics spotted the talented stars as they were admiring the skills of the D’s flair bartenders. If these fans’ “goals” were to be up close and personal with NHL greatness, it seems as though they came to the right place. Those guests were in for a special treat considering these facts: Grant has been a seven-time All-Star and won five Stanley Cups, Kevin has won four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers, and Dennis scored a whopping 60 goals for the Washington capitals between 1981-1982. No wonder the LONGBAR was at the “center” of all the chaos!
The men also snapped a photo and hung out with casino owner, Derek Stevens, to talk all things hockey. We found out Darren Banks along with Dennis and Grant had a lot in common and plenty to discuss, considering they all hail from the country that started it all- good ol’ Canada!
Speaking of Canadians – around the same time, D executive Richard Wilk, was called to set up dinner for friends/Detroit Red Wings, Trevor Daley and Xavier Ouellet, at the D’s award-winning Andiamo Italian Steakhouse. The funny thing is, both men happened to know Banksy and struck up some good conversation. Daley also happens to be a 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup champion, having played on the Pittsburgh Penguins during those years.
‘Tis the hockey season!
