On Wednesday, May 16, at 2:42 p.m., the Las Vegas Monorail notified a delighted Sibel Altun, visiting Las Vegas from Sydney, Australia, with her fiancé Matt Fry, that she was the mass transit system’s 80 millionth passenger

Camera bulbs flashed and confetti cannons erupted when the milestone moment took place, just inside the fare gates of the Monorail’s station at The LINQ Hotel & Casino/ Harrah’s. Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Ingrid Reisman, accompanied by Elvis impersonator Steve Connolly, presented Altun with a basket filled with more than $3,000 of exciting Las Vegas experiences.

LAS VEGAS MONORAIL FAST FACTS:
Route: Seven-stop, 3.9-mile (6.4-kilometer) elevated system along the world-famous Las Vegas Strip with stations at: MGM Grand, Bally’s/Paris Las Vegas; Flamingo/Caesars Palace; Harrah’s/The LINQ; Las Vegas Convention Center; Westgate; SLS Las Vegas.

Mobile Ticketing: This year, the Monorail introduced mobile ticketing for Android users via Google Pay, becoming the world’s first system to fully integrate its ticketing system with the popular Google app. Meanwhile, Apple phone users can also purchase and use tickets electronically using the Monorail’s Scan-and-Go technology.

Fare Integration Technology for Conventions: The Monorail partners with conventions and tradeshow organizers to load Monorail fare directly into attendees’ registration badges. Attendees can just scan their badge and ride the Monorail.

Private “Shuttle Trains” for Groups: Meeting planners can arrange to privatize Monorail trains to offer their guests dedicated transfers from hotel to convention center, or anywhere else along the system’s 3.9-mile route.

Trains: Nine trains, each with four cars that arrive at each station every 4 to 9 minutes and travel at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.

Ridership: Carries 5 million passengers annually; 81 percent of riders are leisure travelers and 19 percent are business/convention visitors.

Zero Emissions Trains: In 2017, the Las Vegas Monorail aided in the annual removal of an estimated 2.2 million vehicle miles from Southern Nevada’s major roadways, reducing emissions by more than 28 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) over the course of the year.

Tickets: Passes start as low as $5 for a single-ride ticket; multi-ride passes are available for 24 hours up to seven days and may be purchased at any station or at https://tickets.lvmonorail.com/.
