Walker Furniture
is seeking recommendation letters for the company’s fifth annual “Help for Heroes” program to help wounded U.S. Military personnel and veterans in Clark County who need specialized furniture (Pictured above: Help for Heroes Larry Alterwitz CEO Walker Furniture, veteran Robert LeonardTim Gomez Commander Paradise Post 149 at 2017 Event)

“Walker Furniture created the ‘Help for Heroes’ to help make day-to-day living a little easier for a segment of our community that is often overlooked,” said Larry Alterwitz, CEO for Walker Furniture. “Again this year, the program will provide some relief for 10 active military personnel and/or veterans.”

The “Help for Heroes” program relies on letters from the community describing the situations of prospective recipients. Walker Furniture will provide certain necessary items that are not generally available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, such as lift chairs, adjustable beds, new mattresses, dining sets and a variety of other possibilities. Each delivery will be specific to the needs of each recipient. The deadline for submitting a letter is Saturday, June 30, 2018.

“We need to remember and acknowledge what these men and women have sacrificed and done for us,” Alterwitz said. “The Veterans Administration helps them but is limited in what they can do beyond their medical needs. This is a chance to help a veteran and to say Thank You.”

Letters received by Walker Furniture will be reviewed and evaluated by an independent panel headed by Commander Tim Gomez of the American Legion Paradise Post 149. The post commander and post members will personally visit each prospective recipient to evaluate their individual needs.  The furniture items will be delivered shortly after a special presentation event to be held on Saturday, July 7 at the Leatherneck Club.

Letters should be sent to:

Larry Alterwitz, CEO
Walker Furniture/Help For Heroes
301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89106

Letters can be mailed by U.S. Postal Service, faxed to 702-384-7772, hand delivered submitted online by visiting www.walkerfurniture.comThe deadline is June 30, 2018.

Alterwitz said several local nonprofit organizations have come forward to offer assistance toward Help for Heroes, including the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, which will give food and other items to recipients if needed, as well as support in many other areas. John Mull’s – Road Kill Grill will partner with Walker Furniture and provide lunch for the veterans and their families at the special event on July 7.
