The Mob Museum offers a provocative, contemporary look at these topics through hundreds of artifacts and immersive storylines.

The Mob Museum has announced events and special programs taking place in August and September 2017:

The Mob Museum’S August, September Events

  • Community Safety Forum on Homicide Investigation, August 20
  • Wiseguy Speaker Series with Ashley Hlebinsky: Perpetrators and
Protectors: The Mob, The Law and Firearms, September 5
  • Wiseguy Speaker Series and Book Signing with Larry McShane, author of
    “Last Don Standing,” September 14
  • Community Safety Forum on Emergency Preparedness, September 17

Community Safety Forum: Homicide Investigation, Sunday, August 20, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The monthly Community Safety Forum, held in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and generously sponsored by NV Energy, will address how police investigate homicides, officer-involved shootings, fire deaths and suspicious deaths. It is the LVMPD Homicide Section’s commitment to the unrelenting pursuit of those involved and it is their hope, through professionalism, that the Citizens of Clark County feel comfortable to contact them with any information related to any homicide that has occurred countywide. The LVMPD Homicide Section works in conjunction with the Forensic Division, which evaluates and examines 10-15 cases per day. Registration is required for this event.

Wiseguy Speaker Series: Ashley Hlebinsky; Perpetrators and Protectors: The Mob, The Law and Firearms, September 5 at 7 pm. Delve into discussion on contracted hits, turf war massacres and broad-daylight shootouts with an exploration of the firearms used throughout the history of organized crime and the law. Ashley Hlebinsky, Robert W. Woodruff Curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, will discuss firearms used by the Mob, the story of organized crime’s inextricable relationship to guns and police officers’ use of them to stop crooks. In addition, she will provide a presentation and demonstration of the features and uses of several firearms from The Mob Museum’s collection. The event is free for Museum Members or with Museum admission.

Wiseguy Speaker Series and Book Signings: Larry McShane’s “Last Don Standing”, September 14 and 15. Author Larry McShane chronicles the deadly reign of Ralph Natale, the last great Mob boss of Philadelphia and the first Mob boss to turn state’s evidence. Written with the full cooperation of Natale, McShane’s book covers more than half a century of Mob lore and provides a number of insider revelations about some of the most seminal events in Mob history, including Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance, the murder of Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and the Mob’s influence in Atlanta. McShane’s presentation will take a deep dive into the workings of the Philadelphia Mob during Natale’s era, providing an informative complement to this must-read book for Mob history enthusiasts. In addition, attendees will hear about the murder of Angelo Bruno, the Mob’s influence on the Ali-Liston fight, excerpts from Natale’s handwritten prison diary about life in the Mob and more. McShane’s presentation and book signing will take place on September 14 at 7 p.m. with an additional book signing on September 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The events are free for Museum Members or with Museum admission.

Community Safety Forum: Emergency Preparedness, Sunday, September 17, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The monthly Community Safety Forum is held in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and generously sponsored by NV Energy. This discussion will address the five top hazards for Clark County including earthquakes, extreme weather, wildfire, pandemic and hazardous materials. Southern Nevada is particularly vulnerable to disaster because no food is grown in the region and the area’s main fuel line originates in California. This program, created by the American Red Cross, educates individuals on preparedness in emergency and disaster situations. As part of the presentation, attendees will learn the basic tenants of emergency preparedness planning, including having a water, food and medical plan; family and neighborhood planning; and how to put these plans into action. Registration is required for this event.

The Mob Museum has been awarded accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition afforded U.S. museums. Admission is $23.95 for adults ages 18 and over with special pricing for online purchase, children, seniors, military, law enforcement, Nevada residents, and teachers. The Museum is open daily; visit the website for up-to-date operating hours. For more information, call (702) 229-2734 or visit Connect on Facebook at or Twitter @themobmuseum.
