C.T. Sewell Elementary School Receives $17,000 from Target

October 11, 2009 by

As part of the Target Volunteers School Library Makeover program, staff and students from C.T. Sewell Elementary School, along with Public Education Foundation and Clark County READS staff and Target volunteers, will celebrate back-to-school with the gift of new books and supplies. Thanks to a grant from Target to The Public Education Foundation’s literacy initiative Clark County READS, Sewell is receiving $17,000 to go towards the purchase of new books for its library, equipment and classroom supplies. In addition, the Target Volunteers will beautify the campus by adding murals, building more library shelving and creating extra storage area in the office, among other projects.

The granting of the book award to The Public Education Foundation is part of the Target Volunteers School Library Makeover program. This year, 26 schools across the nation will receive Target grants for books, equipment and supplies, as well as Target Volunteers to work on school library enhancement projects, similar to the Sewell project. In addition, more than 1,600 Target stores and Distribution Centers provided a $500 book award to a local school of their choice to fund the purchase of books and reading supplies for the fall just in time to kick-off the new school year. In support of this effort, Target teamed up with First Book, a non-profit organization, to enable the schools to purchase children’s booksonline at a deeply reduced price.

The book awards will be distributed throughout the months of September and October 2009. The volunteer initiative builds on the company’s commitment to volunteerism and education. To learn more, visit
