Whitney Mesa BMX Track Opening Set for April 25

Whitney Mesa BMX Track Opening Set for April 25
The City of Henderson
will host a grand opening celebration for the Whitney Mesa BMX track at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25.

The track is located in Whitney Mesa Recreation Area, 1575 Galleria Dr., adjacent to Whitney Ranch Recreation Center. Mayor Andy Hafen and members of the Henderson City Council will dedicate the track.

The celebration includes a ceremonial ribbon cutting, riding demonstrations and the opportunity to meet racing cyclist and Olympian Connor Fields. Immediately following is the Bob Warnicke Memorial Scholarship Race, which is free for spectators. A complimentary bike valet will be available for residents riding their bikes to the event.

The 3-acre track is all downhill with asphalt turns, a wall ride and a pump track, which is one of the most popular and most sought-after BMX attractions in the industry today. The USA BMX-sanctioned track is the only left-turn track of its kind in Southern Nevada and also features covered spectator seating and a concession area.

“With BMX growing in popularity, we are thrilled to provide this venue for riders of all ages and abilities,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “The sport of BMX helps teach kids about setting and reaching goals and helps to develop strong minds and bodies. The Whitney Mesa BMX track is a true asset for our residents and to our premier parks system.”

The Whitney Mesa BMX track is open for practice from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Races are held Mondays and Saturdays with registration from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. respectively. All riders must have a Participant ID card, available at any City of Henderson recreation center.

Funding of $611,000 for this project was received through Resident Construction Tax and through a grant from the Bureau of Land Management as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA). The City of Henderson has received more than $238 million in SNPLMA funding over the last decade for parks, trails and open space projects to benefit the community.
