Drivers usually try to steer clear of walls at a racetrack. This year, Jimmie Johnson will help raise them. The six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion will team up with Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas to raise the walls of a new home at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the Kobalt 400 race weekend, March 6-8.

More than 100 Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers will join Johnson to frame a home that will be transferred to Henderson, Nevada, and completed in partnership with a local family. Throughout the weekend, Lowe’s and Habitat will give race fans the chance to sign up for a future Habitat build and encourage them to enlist the help of a friend or family member to multiply their impact. Johnson will build alongside members of his Team 48 pit crew.

“Amazing things happen when people come together,” said Meg Delor, executive director, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas. “We’re so grateful to have the support of Lowe’s and Jimmie Johnson to help us build this home and raise awareness of the need for affordable housing throughout Southern Nevada.”

Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is partnering with the City of Henderson to improve Henderson’s Pittman region through the construction of six single-family homes in the Eastside redevelopment area. The new construction will bring the total number of homes Habitat has built in this region to 25.

“We’re proud to help Habitat Las Vegas continue its transformational work in Henderson,” said Doug Wokurka, Lowe’s vice president of store operations for the West division. “We hope this extraordinary build inspires race fans to support Habitat projects in their own communities.”

Lowe’s has partnered with Habitat for Humanity for more than a decade to build homes and revitalize communities around the country. Since 2003, Lowe’s has committed more than $63 million to Habitat and helped nearly 4,000 families improve their living conditions.

“Teamwork is the key to accomplishing great things – both on and off the track,” said Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. “It’s a privilege to partner with Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity to help ensure this family and many more have a safe, decent and affordable place to live.”ousing with the help of volunteer labor and donated time, materials and funds. Each home is sold at no profit and with a zero-interest mortgage to local working families, who otherwise might be forced to live in substandard housing. Habitat partner families contribute “sweat equity” by helping in the construction of their own homes.
