George Michael Brings “25 Live” Tour to MGM June 21
04-09-2008 by VegasNews Staff

Having performed 80 shows in 12 European countries for a staggering 1.3 million fans over the past year, legendary superstar George Michael will bring his “25 LIVE” smash tour to North American arenas in support of his new retrospective record. The tour will stop at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday, June 21 at 8 p.m. This will be Michael’s first North American tour in 17 years.

The “25 LIVE” tour broke several ticket sales records, most notably in Copenhagen. Michael’s concert at The Parken Stadium sold more than 50,000 tickets in a matter of minutes, shattering the venue’s previous ticket sales record previously held by U2. The North American leg of the “25 LIVE” tour will kick off in San Diego June 17 and will continue through cities such as San Jose, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New York, among others.

The tour will incorporate 22 shows over the course of seven weeks and Michael will perform material from the entire span of his career, including his classic Wham! tracks. Michael recently teamed with iTunes and TicketMaster to produce an innovative media package which allows fans rare access to his videos, songs and tickets to one of his North American “25 LIVE” concerts. The package is now on sale on iTunes.

His new record, “Twenty Five,” is scheduled to be released this week and is a 29-song, two-CD set featuring several new songs including duets with superstars Paul McCartney and Mary J. Blige. Additionally, the CD features many of Michael’s iconic songs from both his solo and Wham! career. A companion two-disc DVD of 40 videos also will be made available in the near future.

Michael has enjoyed one of the most successful and enduring careers in the history of pop music, selling more than 85 million records globally and featuring seven U.S. No. 1 singles, two Grammys, three American Music Awards, a MTV Video Music Award and two prestigious Ivor Novello awards for songwriting. His record “Faith” has sold more than 20 million copies.

Michael also has garnered 11 British No. 1 singles and seven British No. 1 albums. He recently was declared the most-played British artist on radio over the course of the last 20 years and also made his American acting debut on the new hit ABC series Eli Stone, in which each episode is titled after one of his songs.

Tickets priced at $175, $90 and $65, not including applicable service charges and taxes, go on sale Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office and at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, and Macy’s West at the Fashion Show Mall). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
