State Grant Helps Fund Fifth Annual Science & Technology Expo The College of Southern Nevada is presenting its fifth Annual Science & Technology Expo on April 11 at the Cheyenne campus and the Nevada Department of Education is assisting with sponsorship of the event through the Nevada Public Education Foundation ACCESS funding and Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education grant funding. The Science & Technology Expo encourages students to learn about a variety of career fields and presents an opportunity for them to speak with educators, career counselors and businesses about the type of jobs and career pathways offered by local employers and industries. The focus of the Science & Technology Expo is to demonstrate the high level of technology in CSN’s technical programs, such as automotive technology, air conditioning technology, nursing and health sciences programs, telecommunications, information technology and media technologies. Participants will be able to visually and tactilely experience science, technology and technical education, interacting with the high technology equipment used in the industries. The Science & Technology Expo provides an event that displays the variety of technical programs that CSN offers and is designed to increase community awareness about the accessibility of a college education along with the benefits, potential and opportunity of higher education. In addition to the Expo, the event will also feature the Women in New Non-traditional Education Roles (WINNER) conference to provide women with information on nontraditional, high skill, high wage and high demand jobs in the community. The WINNER conference will include the Science & Technology Expo, a hard hat fashion show, luncheon, keynote speaker and workshops on how women can work in traditional male occupations. Over 2,200 Clark County School District middle and high school students will attend this event and experience technology in an interactive environment and college setting. The event is designed to increase their awareness about the potential to attain a college education with hands-on participation to help them develop their future career goals. Adult participants, who may be seeking ways to re-enter the work force, advance in their jobs, or start a new career, are also encouraged to attend the Expo for information on their educational and career decision-making. For more information call 651-4959 for the Science & Technology Expo and 651-2609 to register for the WINNER conference for women.
