Cirque du Soleil Celebrates 25th Anniversary with World Record Stilt Walk

Cirque du Soleil cast, crew and staff attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the most people to simultaneously walk on stilts on June 16, the date of its 25th anniversary (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com). Cities worldwide are making the attempt to break the standing Guinness World Record of 625 participants. The stilt walking events in Orlando and Las Vegas coincide with events in Montreal, Moscow, Fortaleza (Brazil) and Macau with unofficial events in Portugal, Japan and New York. There will be a combined total of more than 1300 people attempting to walk 328 feet on stilts.
To mark this historic anniversary, audiences at the Cirque du Soleil shows on June 16 will experience special performances including commemorative gifts for everyone. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, through official proclamations, named June 16, 2009 Cirque du Soleil Day in their respective cities. Visitors to The Strip in Las Vegas noted that Las Vegas Boulevard was renamed Cirque du Soleil Boulevard for the day. Cirque du Soleil will continue celebrating the 25th anniversary with specially priced tickets through October 31 for select performances in Las Vegas.
