Doug E. Fresh

Best known for his 1988 Platinum hip-hop classic, “It Takes Two,” Rob Base (with DJ E-Z Rock) rode his hit onto R&B radio stations as well as dance clubs, providing a touchstone for the style known as hip-house.
Grammy-nominated British-American rapper Slick Rick is known for his use of narrative in his raps and has been called “hip-hop’s greatest storyteller.”
Furious 5 with Grandmasters Melle Mel + Scorpio
The Furious 5 are trendsetters, partly responsible for the creation of the subculture of hip-hop. In 2007 they became the first rap group ever inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “The Message” was the first rap song that contained social commentary, and is in the archives of the Library of Congress for its social relevance in that time period.
DJ Kool is the pioneer of hip-hop/go-go fusion. Over the years, DJ Kool has collaborated with several hip-hop and R&B artists, including Will Smith and Mya. DJ Kool has taken his music around the world and continues to perform and DJ around the country.
The Sugar Hill Gang
The Sugar Hill Gang is an American hip-hop group, known mostly for its 1979 hit, “Rapper’s Delight,” the first hip-hop single to become a Top 40 hit. The song uses an interpolation of the instrumental track from the classic hit “Good Times” by Chic as its foundation.
Kurtis Blow, one of the founders and creators of recorded rap, stands as an emerging leader in a new generation of rappers with street sense, social criticism and commercial savvy. A timeless artist and hip-hop legend, Kurtis Blow has been instrumental in raising up a generation of MC’s, and he will soon carry the torch for hip-hop music into new arenas.
Black Sheep debuted in 1991 with the hit song, “Flavor of the Month,” and later released its first album, “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing,” which gained them praise and recognition in the hip-hop community for the album’s unique rhythms and intelligent lyrics.
