Queens of the Stone Age
is commemorating the upcoming reissue of their expanded, remastered, 1998 self-titled debut album, with a limited series of intimate shows.  On Saturday night the band performed at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (Photo credit:  Scott Harrison/Retna).

Queens of The Stone Age played songs from the record in addition to B-sides and other rarities and hits from their early catalogue through the present.

The genesis of Queens of the Stone Age – the band and their first, self-titled album – goes back to the 1995 breakup of band Kyuss, of which QOTSA founding guitarist Josh Homme, was a part of. He briefly spent time on the road as second guitarist in the band Screaming Trees, but discarded the sludgy low-end expanses of his former bands for much tighter song structure (for the most part) and honest-to-goodness capital ‘H’ hooks. Homme returned to his old stomping grounds and reunited with Kyuss drummer Alfredo Hernández to record as a fake trio. The members of this “trio” were Hernández on drums and Homme on guitar, vocals and bass guitar, although his bass work is credited to his alter-ego and third member of the “trio”, Carlo Von Sexron. This “trio” was the beginning of Queens of the Stone Age and they released their Queens of the Stone Age album in 1998.
