Summer of Fun Kick-Off Celebration at Cannery Casino & Hotel

May 15, 2011 by

Summer is coming early to The Cannery Casino & Hotel with a FREE concert highlighting several popular acts from the ‘60s and ‘70s on Saturday, May 28 at 4 p.m.

The 9th Annual Summer of Fun Kick-Off Festival brings together great music, great food, vendors and lots of classic cars! Classic car and hot rod owners are encouraged to take part in the free cruise-in.

The first 200 drivers who enter will have a great spot for their car to be seen and a free t-shirt. Classic cars and hot rods are asked to park on Aerojet Way on the south side of the Cannery Casino.

Tickets to the concert are FREE and available to the public while supplies last at the Cannery Casino & Hotel’s front desk.

The musical lineup includes Sonny Geraci, Brenton Wood, The Contours featuring Sylvester Potts and The Happenings.

Sonny Geraci is considered by many to be the most versatile singer and performer in the music business today. He was the original lead vocalist for The Outsiders and later Climax. His hits include “Precious & Few,” “Time Won’t Let Me,” “Gimme Just A Little More Time.”

Brenton Wood burst onto the scene in Southern California in 1967 with “The Oogum Boogum Song.” But it was the selection on the ‘B” side of the record that ended up getting the most attention.“Gimme Little Sign,” climbed to #9 on the charts. His other recordings include “Baby You Got It” and “Me and You.”

The Contours, featuring Sylvester Potts are probably best known for the song “Do You Love Me,” which went to #3 on the Pop charts in 1962. The song would be revived years later and make into the Top 20 after it was included in the movie “Dirty Dancing.” The group followed up with “Whole Lotta Woman” and continues to tour today.

The Happenings had their first song go to #1 in 1966. “See You In September” would eventually be listed as among the Top 100 summer songs of all time by Entertainment Magazine. The ensemble’s other hits include“Go Away Little Girl” “I Got Rhythm.”

The Summer of Fun Kick-Off is just the beginning! Check out Cannery Casino & Hotel’s entertainment lineup all summer long! Tickets for these events will be available at Cannery Casino, by phone at (702) 507-5757 or on line at www.cannerycasino.com.
