Spreading seasonal cheer, United Way of Southern Nevada’s Young Philanthropists Society (YPS) and its Kids & Cops program hosted a holiday party for Hollingsworth Elementary School’s students on Friday, Dec. 17 (Pictured above: United Way of Southern Nevada’s Young Philanthropists Society Volunteer Co-Chair Nikki Giroux helped children with crafts during their holiday party at Hollingsworth Elementary School)

At the party, YPS volunteers, a membership group of committed young philanthropists dedicated to creating lasting change in southern Nevada, made festive crafts and read books with kindergarten through second grade students. YPS Volunteer Co-Chairs, Nikki Giroux and Joe Micatrotto Jr. and YPS Project and Volunteer Committee Chair, Jon Wyndham, were on hand to facilitate and participate in the activities.

The day’s excitement continued as local law enforcement officers with the Kids & Cops program, a partnership between United Way and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, handed out gifts such as clothing and educational games to nearly 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. YPS donated the gifts to the children in kindergarten through second grade.

“Giving back to the community reminds us that volunteering is important especially during the holidays,” said Joe Micatrotto Jr., YPS co-chair. “We are continually looking for ways to support YPS’s mission of creating educational change in our community. It was very rewarding to spend the morning with the students, reading with them and seeing the smiles on their faces.”
