Extreme Thing Adds to Band Lineup for March 27 Event

March 2, 2010 by

Extreme Thing Sports and Music Festival announced the final lineup for the March 27 event at Desert Breeze Skate Park in Las Vegas. Due to the cancellation of Sum 41, Winds of Plague and I Fight Dragons, Five Finger Death Punch, The Bled and The Ready Set have been added to an already star-studded lineup. Other confirmed bands include: The Used, Escape the Fate, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and Story of the Year on the Verizon Wireless main stage with Call the Cops, Never Shout Never, The Cab, Hey Monday, Every Avenue and The Summer Set taking the newly formed AP (Alternative Press) Stage. This will be the first year Extreme Thing will feature four stages, with the third being the XPOZ Local Band Stage and fourth being the Retaks Expression Tour. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 day of the show. A VIP Package is also available for $35 and includes a ticket, commemorative event T-shirt and artist-signed event poster.

Five Finger Death Punch is heavy metal band from Los Angeles formed in 2005 by Hungarian-born guitarist Zoltan Bathory. Ivan Moody singing vocals; Jeremy Spencer playing drums, Matt Snell on bass, and Jason Hook on guitar, round out the band. The band chose its name as a nod to Hong Kong Kung-Fu cinema. After its debut album in 2006, the band’s sophomore effort, The Way of the Fist, charted on the Billboard 200 in its first week and later went on to produce the Top 10 single, “The Bleeding,” which was chosen by MTV2’s Headbanger’s Ball as one of the top five metal videos of the year. The band’s second label recording was released in September 2009, and with it, they’re currently touring the United States, United Kingdom and Europe.

The Bled travels to Extreme Thing not far from its hometown of Tucson, Ariz. where it debuted on the hardcore/metal circuit in 2001. Inspired by Converge, Refused and Radiohead, The Bled released its first album, Pass the Flask, in 2003 only to re-release it four years later on another label with additional bonus tracks. The band released Found in the Flood in 2005 and is scheduled to release their newest album in mid-March.

The Ready Set is the brainchild of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Jordan Witzigreuter, who at 19, is a recent high school graduate and one-man alternative pop band influenced by life, love and music. Witzigreuter launched his “solo project” after many stints in bands that didn’t convey the sound he wanted to project. Although he records all parts, friends join him on stage during live shows. Citing everyone from Daft Punk and Kenna to Kanye West as influences, Witzigreuter stresses there is no specific comparison for his music – and he likes it that way.

This is the 15th year Extreme Thing Sports and Festival rages in the valley and each year is bigger and better than before. In addition to the spectacular music lineup, the festival will include Ricardo Laguna’s Pro BMX Dirt Jump Competition, professional wrestling by Adrenaline Unleashed, roller derby with teams from around the country and the Vegas AmJam amateur BMX and skate competitions.

Only a personal “unopened” bottle of water can be brought to the festival along with still cameras and sunscreen. There will be plenty of ATMs on site this year with an array of food vendors available, from barbecue to Thai, along with beverages. No alcohol will be sold. No animals, coolers, weapons or chairs are permitted. No re-entry will be permitted.

Sponsors include X107.5 FM, Las Vegas CityLife, My LV TV, CW Las Vegas, Red Bull, Verizon Wireless, Wasted Space and The XPOZ Coalition.
