300 New Exhibitors Featured Among 2,700 at the 2009 International CES

December 9, 2008 by

Three hundred new first-time exhibitors are among the more than 2,700 exhibiting companies across a wide range of categories, including gaming, in-vehicle electronics, information technology, content and broadband service providers, unveiling new technology products at the 2009 International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow. Owned and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the 2009 International CES returns to Las Vegas, January 8-11, 2009.

The product categories of gaming, digital imaging, entertainment content and location based services (LBS) are growth leaders for the holiday sales season and on the 2009 CES showfloor. New exhibitors in 2009 include such marquee companies as Blockbuster, Chumby, Electronic Arts, Eye-Fi, Huawei, Hyundai/Kia, Mattel, ooma, Phoenix Technology, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Verizon Wireless.

CEA projects 5.6 percent growth for the gaming category this holiday season, 6.9 percent growth for digital imaging and 30 percent growth in holiday sales for GPS/LBS products, with an increased showing from exhibitors in these categories at the 2009 International CES. Overall, the 2009 CES will feature 2,700 exhibitors from 30 product categories across 1.7 million net square feet of space.

“The 2009 International CES momentum is strong,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “In this challenging economy, our industry knows that CES is more important than ever to grow business. With each CES attendee holding an average of 12 meetings at our tradeshow, there is no better strategy for generating leads and jumpstarting new business than attending the 2009 International CES. In tough economic times, tradeshows make the most business sense and CES is the must-attend event of the year for our industry.”

Athletes for Life will bring world class athletes, including its founder Willie Gault, and medical professionals to the 2009 International CES to “Save Lives One Heart at a Time” by spreading information and education about the impact of heart disease. CES attendees are invited to visit their mobile diagnostic facility with revolutionary cardiovascular monitoring and testing technology in the LVCC Central Plaza and within the Digital Health TechZone at the Sands.

The 2009 International will feature an amazing array of 200 conference sessions with 500 expert speakers. New for this year is the Social Media Jungle, on January 7, which will address how social media is changing the way we work and live. A full day of program sessions includes state of the industry updates and a candid look at how companies can motivate consumers through social media to drive product sales without increasing costs. Another new conference program is the Cable Conference, with multi-day sessions January 7-9, geared to address key cable industry business issues. In addition, Scott McNealy, chairman of Sun Microsystems, is a featured speaker at the CES Government 2009 conference.

Exhibitors like NBC Universal and Sony Pictures Television will showcase a wide variety of content across digital platforms at the 2009 International CES. NBC Universal will broadcast live from the CES show floor with a range of broadcast and cable properties including: The Today Show, the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Access Hollywood and CNBC with Maria Bartiromo. Sony Pictures Television will film daily episodes of Jeopardy! on a specially built set on the CES show floor.
