Comedian Mike Epps at The Orleans Showroom Jan. 2-3

Mike Epps stand-up comedian-turned actor has generated quite a buzz among his peers and within the industry for being one of the funniest comedic actors to emerge onto the Hollywood scene.
A native of Indiana, Mike is one of nine kids of a single mother. From an early age, he discovered his ability to make people laugh, and with Richard Pryor as his main influence, Mike started hitting the stand-up stage when he was a teenager. Mike’s comedic talent was first recognized by a national audience in 1995 when he appeared on the Def Comedy Jam Tour and appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam broadcasts. Mike eventually made the move to Los Angeles after his successful performance at the 1999 Laffapolooza Festival in Atlanta.
During his performance at LA’s Comedy Store, Mike captured the attention of Ice Cube who eventually cast Mike in the co-starring role of Day-Day in his feature film debut, 2000’s hit comedy Next Friday. Mike was quickly catapulted into the world of film, and also land also starring roles in Bait with Jamie Fox, How High with Method Man and Redman. He was also the voice of Moe Mo Gunz Jackson in The Boondocks and the voice of Sonny in Dr. Doolittle 2.
Keeping with the sanctity of his beloved stand-up, Mike has been performing his comedy act, The Mike Epps on the Edge Tour. His one hour comedy special, Inappropriate Behavior aired on HBO, followed by its subsequent release on DVD. Mike transitioned from his comedy special with HBO to hosting duties as the new host of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam which aired this past fall.
He recently wrapped production on his next film endeavor entitled Janky Promoters, a film that reunites him with Ice Cube. The film will hit theaters in March ’09. Mike is also set to portray Richard Pryor in his upcoming biopic, based on his daughter Rain Pryor’s book Jokes My Father Never Told Me.
