Officials from Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) joined city leaders and Fireworks by Grucci today at the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip to announce the details for America’s Party: A Vegas Celebration, the citywide New Year’s Eve Party planned for Dec. 31.
The fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street will ring in 2010 in classic Las Vegas style. The theme of the pyrotechnic display will be America’s Party: A Vegas Celebration, featuring distinctive music and colors to ring in the New Year.
America’s Party is the official moniker coined by the LVCVA and Las Vegas Events to signify the annual citywide celebration. This year’s festivities include both the themed fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and the live concerts and fireworks under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience. Themed as the second annual “TributePalooza,” the world’s best tribute bands will be performing live on Fremont Street from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. (PT) on both the 1st Street and 3rd Street stages. TributePalooza features eight top tribute bands, performing classic favorites for all ages from Aerosmith, Depeche Mode, Guns N’ Roses, INXS, Led Zeppelin, No Doubt, U2 and Van Halen.
The firing locations include (from the south, heading north): MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Aria, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island (TI), The Venetian and Stratosphere.
As a culmination to a full year of planning, Fireworks by Grucci has coordinated a 7 minute, 11 second program that will light up the Las Vegas Strip. Effects such as the golden kamuro, blue zig zag comets, silver glittering palm trees, golden orchids, peacock tails, red rings with palm pistils, blue and silver peonies and yellow and red reflecting shells are all part of the core program. Special effects, such as the letters ‘L’ and ‘V’, will open the performance as a tribute to Las Vegas. Peacock tails will illuminate the sky during Gloria Estefan’s “You’ll be Mine (Party Time).” In addition, green popping peonies will burst overhead during “Star Wars: Duel of Fate” and red chrysanthemums with blue and silver peonies will streak down the Las Vegas Strip during “God Bless America.”
“There is no better place in the world to spend New Year’s than Las Vegas,” Mayor Oscar B. Goodman said. “We have the best hotels, entertainment, gaming, restaurants and shopping, and on New Year’s Eve we are going to have the best and biggest party. Whether you are watching the amazing fireworks on the Strip or having a blast under the Fremont Street Experience canopy, Las Vegas is the world’s New Year’s destination.”
“America’s Party will return to the rooftops for a spectacular display,” said Las Vegas Events President Pat Christenson. “This will be the 10th year that we have coordinated a New Year’s Eve fireworks display. This celebration would not have been possible without the tremendous cooperation between the LVCVA, Las Vegas Events, Fireworks by Grucci, the Clark County Fire Department and Building Services and the individual resort properties.”
According to the LVCVA, Las Vegas continues to be a top destination for thousands of visitors on New Year’s Eve.
“New Year’s Eve provides the perfect excuse for a getaway, and there is no better place to celebrate than Las Vegas,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “From our world-class dining to unparalleled nightclubs and star-studded shows and events, we provide a great experience no matter what your style.”
Fireworks by Grucci of New York is world renowned for its pyrotechnic creations. The group recently created the spectacular Grand Opening of the Atlantis Hotel and The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai and has executed numerous presidential inaugurations and citywide celebrations. Locally, Fireworks by Grucci has produced many of Las Vegas’ largest special events and grand openings, including the official Las Vegas Centennial celebration.
“We are excited with the opportunity to fill the sky above the world’s largest New Year’s Eve stage ? Las Vegas ? for AmeAmerica’s Party 2010,” said Phil Grucci, executive vice president of Fireworks by Grucci. “Las Vegas is our second home, as we have had the honor to produce six America’s Party celebrations, as well as Las Vegas’ Centennial Celebration and all of the Strip’s major grand openings since the grand opening of The Mirage in 1989. We rest our six-generation reputation on this year’s performance, promising to be a spectacular welcoming to the year 2010.”
For visitors and residents spending the evening downtown, gates will open at 6 p.m. and capacity is limited. Tickets are $10 for locals with valid Nevada ID (21 and over). For those traveling from out of town, tickets can be purchased for $20 by calling 702-678-5600 or (877) VEGAS4U.
