CNN reporter Larry King hosted the evening’s event and found a welcoming face upon his arrival to the pink carpet. He was immediately greeted by 2009 Miss USA Kristen Dalton. After King’s controversial interview with former Miss California Carrie Prejean earlier this week, the hard-hitting journalist hugged Dalton, the reigning pageant queen, on the carpet and chatted a bit before posing for photos together.

King, who has been the master of ceremonies all eight years of the non-profit’s event, told reporters, “I think anybody who has made it, whatever ‘made it’ is, deserves to give something back.”

Aubrey O’Day, former Danity Kane member and current lead in the Las Vegas Strip burlesque production, PEEPSHOW, walked the carpet in a one-shoulder asymmetrical silver, glitter mini-dress, perfectly fitting with the disco theme of the event. She posed for the cameras and told reporters that of all the events in Las Vegas, Rock for the Cure was the one she most wanted to attend. She said, “I’m a huge supporter of cancer research. I’ve had a few members of my family die from cancer, breast cancer in particular. Everybody is gathering together to support a very good cause.”

Also walking the pink carpet was America’s Got Talent winner and Mirage headliner, Terry Fator. With a surprise performance at the end of the evening, Fator amazed the crowd with his celebrity singing impressions and unparalleled ventriloquism. He stated, “I think the point of being a celebrity is not only to be able to entertain people but to give back to the community and help in any way we can. I’m just absolutely honored when I’m able to use my position to help others.”

NBC late night talk show host and stand-up comedy legend, Jay Leno, also entertained the group of over 900 guests with his infamous wit and timely jokes to close the evening before a disco-themed dance party ensued.

One of the most anticipated moments from the evening included the silent and live auctions. Highly coveted auction items from the evening included a tour of Leno’s personal car collection along with tickets to The Jay Leno Show; dinner with Eva Longoria Parker at her upcoming restaurant, BESO, in Crystals at CityCenter; tickets to the American Idol finale; and even an all-new 2010 XJ Jaguar including a personal trip to England to design and accessorize the high-class ride.

NVCI founder and honoree at last night’s event, Heather Murren, said, “Tonight is our eight gala to support the Nevada Cancer Institute. So far our galas have raised more than $20 million over the years to build the cancer research center for the State of Nevada, to help families with cancer, and hopefully one day to find a cure for this disease.”

Murren was given a standing ovation both before and following her speech, with NVCI honoring her dedication and commitment to help build the Institute from a dream in 2002 to the three-building campus it is today including some of the world’s best cancer physicians and researchers.
