The room previously was used for in-school suspension, while the space for student resources was limited to a small corner of a classroom. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and its employees, otherwise known as CoStars, sponsored and volunteered to remodel the suspension room as part of the Project 150 resource room program. Students can now use the room as a place to work, rest, eat and find essential items. The renovation includes two workstations with computers, tables and chairs, a custom-made pantry, television monitors and a kitchenette with a microwave. GE Appliances provided the refrigerator.

Project 150 is a local nonprofit that helps high school students in need stay in school by providing clothing, food, hygiene items and school supplies. Project 150 serves 47 high schools. The student center at Desert Rose High School marks its 46th resource room.

“I am thrilled with the potential impact this project will have as a result of the combined efforts of Project 150 and our CoStars,” remarked Daniel Espino, senior vice president of people for The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. “When like-minded individuals passionate about making a change in their community come together, the sky is the limit.”

Principal Janice Polley-Augente believes 400 high school students and 700 adult students will use the center, stating, “The new student center is designed to support our students by providing them a business center, meeting space and resources that address their many needs. Thanks to the generosity of Project 150 and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, our students will have access to tools that will give them new opportunities to experience success and achieve their goals.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with The Cosmopolitan to give the students a place at school where they can go for a reprieve, for food, for clothes or anything else they need to make it through to the next school day,” Project 150 Executive Director Meli Pulido said.

Desert Rose High School is located at 444 Brooks Avenue.

Project 150 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization, founded in December 2011 by local businessmen Don Purdue and Patrick Spargur. The two had heard about 150 homeless high school students at Rancho High School in Las Vegas who were in need of support over the Christmas break. Since that time, Project 150 has expanded and now serves more than 2,500 homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students in 47 schools throughout Clark County. Project 150 provides these students with food, clothing, school supplies, sports equipment, shoes and other needs so they have what they need to continue school and be successful in life.
