Mothers from Across the U.S. Go Bald to Support Childhood Cancer Research
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, announces the seventh annual St. Baldrick’s 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave event.

46 Mommas Shave for Childhood Cancer

Mothers whose lives have been affected by childhood cancer will come together to shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer, as well as to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. For their “Lucky 7 Shave,” the Mommas will go bald at McMullan’s Irish Pub in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday, July 24, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The 46 Mommas team was created in 2010 and named to reflect the reality that each weekday, on average, 46 mothers in North America are told that their child has cancer. Each year, a new class of “Mommas” is inducted into the group to engage and empower fellow mothers of children with cancer.

“As proud as we are of our fundraising success, we are equally proud of the community of support we’ve built for mothers facing their child’s cancer diagnosis,” explains Courtney Moore, co-organizer of the 46 Mommas event. “Coming together to share our stories and raise awareness, hope, and funds for research is a positive step in our personal journeys and in the fight against childhood cancer. The Las Vegas St. Baldrick’s family has embraced us, and we are looking forward to a fantastic event – Viva Las Mommas!”

Taylor Payne, an 11-year-old cancer survivor and daughter of Chelsea Payne, a 46 Momma from Evans, Colo., will open the event by shaving her head for the first time since losing her locks to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma three years ago.

The class of 2016 has raised more than $44,500 for research to help find a cure for children’s cancers, adding to the impressive overall total of more than $1.8 million raised by the Mommas to date. Several mothers will be joining the team for the seventh year in a row and have set the goal of meeting and surpassing $2 million in donations this year.
