October 29, 2009 by VegasNews.com
The Ninth Annual Gift of Lights illuminates Sunset Park beginning Nov. 13 through Jan. 3. The award-winning holiday event is a local tradition as families cruise through the park to marvel at millions of twinkling lights, including the second phase of LED lights for a greener planet. The brilliant display is open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, and from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays at Sunset Park located at Eastern Avenue and Sunset Road.
Admission is $15 per vehicle on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday nights and $13 per vehicle on Mondays through Thursdays. Buses will be charged $1 per person with a $13 or $15 minimum, depending on the night. A special admission discount of $2 will be given to those who donate gently used items to Goodwill of Southern Nevada at any Goodwill location or on-site at the event. Gift of Lights is presented by U.S. Bank in cooperation with Clark County Parks and Recreation. Partial proceeds from the event also benefit the Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation’s future special events, which benefit the community as a whole.
AOL, MSN and CitySearch.com voted Gift of Lights one of the top 10 holiday events in North America, making the event an annual holiday family tradition. Special evening functions this year include the grand opening on Nov. 13 and Free Community Night on Nov. 16. For the second year, Gift of Lights welcomes Light Up the Heart of a Child, a fund-raiser on Nov. 11 to benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation, where participants will be given the opportunity to walk through the park adorned with lights.
The Boy Scouts of America and other youth groups are selling hot cocoa and apple cider on weekends and holidays, and Santa Claus, Rudolph and Frosty promise to stop by for surprise visits. The first 20,000 vehicles will receive a gift bag filled with valuable coupons and goodies worth approximately $100.
