One Hundred Local Las Vegas-Area Firefighters Battle the Stratosphere Steps to Aid Children

October 12, 2009 by

Stratosphere Hotel & Casino and the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation (FSNBF) have partnered to hold the Firefighter’s Tower Run on October 24, 2009. One hundred local firefighters from Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire Department and Henderson Fire Department will take on the 108-floor, 1,455-step tower in a friendly competition to raise money for FSNBF which provides assistance for sick or injured children through financial aid, clothing and furniture donations.

“Firefighting and stair climbing go hand-in-hand,” said Mike Mossel, Programs Director of FSNBF. “Our organization has raised more than $450,000 since 2003 to aid children and their families in the Southern Nevada community and we continue to try and find unique and fun ways to raise additional funds that are crucial to helping those in need. The Firefighter’s Tower Run at the Stratosphere is just such a unique way to raise money and have some fun doing it. The money raised from this event will specifically go toward our Displaced Fire Victims Program, helping fire victims who have lost their homes. Already this year, we’ve distributed approximately $30,000 to some 100 local families – the need for this assistance in our community is definitely there and we’re excited to have the opportunity to generate more funds to help more people.”

“We’re so pleased to be hosting this tower run for FSNBF,” said Frank Riolo, CEO of American Casino & Entertainment Properties, parent company of Stratosphere. “Not only are these firefighters the community’s heroes by risking their lives to save others, they’re also part of a charitable organization that makes an enormous positive impact on that community. They needed stairs for their climb – we’ve got plenty of stairs at Stratosphere. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help this organization help those in need.”

The Firefighter’s Tower Run will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 24.
