The event, which will take place at 10 a.m. on June 18, will include tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world who will unite for the sixth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record.

Team WLSL holds the current Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson, which stands at 36,564 participants representing 22 different countries.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this world record-setting effort,” said Takuya Ohki, general manager of Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas. “Our park is a committed member of the Nevada Drowning Association and Southern Nevada Drowning Prevention Coalition, and that’s a position we take very seriously. The opportunity to help spread this message of safety in a fun setting like our park is unparalleled.”

Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended injury related death for children ages 1-5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participating in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children ages 1 to 4, yet many kids don’t receive formal swimming or water safety training.

To participate, each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The WLSL covers a 30-minute, basic swim lesson that will be held in the Red Rock Bay attraction.

Each child who participates must have a parent assisting for one-on-one attention. Participants will be able to enjoy the water park’s more than 25 slides and attractions after the lesson, and will receive a certificate of participation.
